Meet Our Sponsored Students
Since its opening, Muddy Lotus Primary school has walked side by side with the children of Bongema village as they take their education into their own hands.
After witnessing the thirst for knowledge that these students had, Shine On Sierra Leone knew that guiding these children through primary school alone wasn’t enough. As Muddy Lotus students graduated, slowly they came together to form a group of primary school graduates. So determined were they to continue their academic expansion, this group of graduates would wake at 3 in the morning and walk up to 9 miles, to and from their secondary schools, just to ensure their educational success.
Seeing their determination and heart, Shine On Sierra Leone felt compelled to continue their partnership with these students, developing the Sponsored Students Program which now supports the education of up to 50 of prior Muddy Lotus students. Working under powerful mentorship from two Muddy Lotus Staff members, these students continue to be examples for their community, striving for academic excellence and keeping the vision of their futures in the forefront of their minds.
